I managed to get a taste of witnessing my first-ever Mixed Martial Arts
event last Saturday night. I have been always accustomed to watching
them on the television, on a delayed basis, too. But, thanks to some
people I know, I managed to get in and see for myself what exactly goes
on in such an event, considering that this could also be ongoing in
boxing, too.
The event I watched is PXC 31.
Its main event featured someone named Crisanto Pitpitunge becoming the
2nd ever homegrown Filipino to become a PXC champion, issuing a knockout victory
on the former titleholder Justin Cruz in the bantamweight division.
Seeing what goes on behind the scenes and looking around at the Ynares
Sports Arena in Pasig was an interesting thing to observe on Saturday
night.
Meanwhile, the UAAP opened it's 75th Season this weekend. Host National
University, led by former Georgia Tech recruit Bobby Ray Parks, jr.,
issued a 90-55 beating over the University of the East. However, my alma
mater also issued a 73-57 victory in their quest for a fifth straight
crown in men's basketball. We face them this weekend.

They needed a spark of an idea, especially since tWWL has not been really THAT helpful in advertising the product. After all, they cast their lot with Comcast / NBC. Maybe an 11-yr old kid would do the trick.

I just finished watching a documentary on the History Channel here that showed the Manila Hostage Crisis. It was almost a year ago today that the gruesome scenario took place. Ugh. I still am embarrassed with how the persons-in-charge handled it and the bad press the Motherland got and is still suffering from until now.

I read here that someone was whining about the rain they had during the weekend. Well, the past few days have been a little rough on my end. I even got a case of the sniffles right now. But I need to remain healthy and stay the course. I have to focus because I need to be in tip-top shape for the week ahead. On Wednesday, the Philippines will be facing off in the 2014 World Cup Qualifier against Sri Lanka. Me and my friends will go to a sports bar to watch this in the afternoon. This Sunday, we will be hosting them and hopefully, I can secure media accreditation to cover this event.

I am sure everyone was looking forward to the rapture moment the other day. The world was looking forward to whether the world was going to end or how epically bad it was going to become. It even spawned lots and lots of memes, from confessions to playlists to even views on fave videos on Youtube. Unfortunately, the day came and went, and pretty much no cataclysmic event occurred. And so, the man who "cried wolf," then goes incommunicado, probably embarrassed that his prediction did not push through.

The previous weekend has been dubbed as the welcome to the Blake Griffin Experience. He played in the Rookie-Sophomore Game, with his team winning and John Wall being named as the MVP. We all know the Dunk Contest. And of course, he is the first rookie after Tim Duncan to be selected by the reserves. Naturally, being a first-timer, he got limited minutes.
So, let me use this to give my own personal viewpoint and assessment of the past few days:

I would like to wish everyone here a Happy Valentine's Day or for some like me, Happy Singles' Awareness Day. I mean, my own personal lovelife has been elusive and it can be a pain, so sometimes, one just has to continue and just wait for the right girl to come and sweep me off my feet and let me sweep her off hers.
You're probably wondering where I got my picture for today. Well, I spent 40 hours in a place called Bacolod to watch a football qualifying match for the first time. I was holed up there from February 8 to 10.
You see, the Philippines is now basking in football glow. We have been pretty much down in the doldrums, being the whipping boys over the years for this sport. Not only that, they have been pretty much ignored. But then, the 2010 Suzuki Cup happened. We made it all the way to the semifinals, losing to the eventual champions Indonesia, but made a good account of themselves.
With the newfound fame, the Azkals (the team's monicker, which is a colloquialism to askals when translated means street dogs) aimed to capitalize that with the next step, qualifying for the AFC Challenge Cup. (c/o Fire Quinito) Being on a home-and-away format, the only place that can currently handle a match like this is the Panaad Stadium (c/o Wikipedia) in Bacolod. Thus the reason why I flew down there. (spending slightly over US $50 for a plane ticket (inclusive of taxes) & spending a total of US $75 for my whole stay in Bacolod.)

Hey, I was in the minority with regards to the Black Eyed Peas performance. Not necessarily because I like the group (feel free to lambaste me for such), but mainly due to the fact that the sound technicians botched this one, like pretty much how this year has been for Jerry Jones and Jerryworld. What we all can agree on is to how the hell Alex Rodriguez tried to steal the show again for a brief moment?

I pretty much spent the whole day watching television. Watched a little of the FA Cup before proceeding with the NBA on ABC. Managed to catch a little of the NHL All-Star Game and the start of the Pro Bowl until it was the Royal Rumble. Really have nothing to say, but again, the Royal Rumble is probably my favorite PPV match ever. It even screwed the TNA storyline by having both Kevin (a.k.a. Big Daddy Cool Diesel) Nash and Booker T appear on it.

Today is June 7. At this time of the year, it would be the first day of school. A new school year. Where people are giddy for allowances, scared of teachers and nervous about the uncertain. The true fun for me came a bit late, in college, where it was always fun. Yes, that university Sparty highlighted in one of the comments. College made it fun. High school for me was focused on academics and not much on the trivial stuff. Makes me wonder what could have been. Then again, if I hadn't had the academic chops, I would not be able to withstand the academic rigors of my alma mater.
Today is the day Daniel Boone discovered what is currently Kentucky. The day before, it was D-Day. All I know is that June is one special month. It should be for everyone.

Luckily, since my office is celebrating the holiday, I get the night off. A day free from stress and consternation. A day free from annoyances and disturbances.
I decided to do this a little earlier than usual time, given recent matters. Like the fact that I have a night life to attend to (finally) and I would like to leave the house and attend a #tweetup.
It has been a while since I have gotten the chance to go out and enjoy the night. Schedule has not been that cooperative and if something opens up, I feel exhausted.
People should take advantage of whatever breaks they have to see what is out there. After all, you live only once and instead of living in regret on missed opportunities, one should take advantage of it.
One thing I always wanted has been to go visit the provinces and partake of local tourism. Never really gone out (unless with family). The only time I managed to go out, it was to the former British Crown Colony a few years. I hope I can get the chance to seize this little possibility and grab it and fully abuse it.

I wonder if you guys on your side of the coin are aware of what is going on out here in my neck of the woods. I was just happy to exert my right to suffrage earlier this morning.
We have had our pitfalls in the Motherland, but always the concept of an election has grabbed our attention. It is our way of directly expressing our voice and demand what we want. There is a saying in these parts... "There are only winners, and those who were cheated out of it."
Now onto to the trivial stuff.
