Blog Outsourcing 8/31

I am pleased to report that I am going to be the newest staffer of Sparty and Friends. Expect only good things from me every Monday and on any day that might have interesting news about what is going on in our realm.

You can read me @ www.armchairsportsblogger.blogspot.com and follow me in twitter @misterjpmanahan.

There is an underrated and underreported event that is going on in Milan, Italy. My friend will be going there to cover the Homeless World Cup 2009. Their objective is noble and pure and they are really doing justice to the world, making it a better place.

Speaking of doing justice in the world, it is National Heroes' Day here in the Philippines, where we honor those who represent our country. The Big Lead wrote about a sportsman who is following the route Pat Tillman made. (I hope he can come home safe and sound.)

Now here are the links you have been looking forward to:

Life as LA's QB. Matt Leinart's true successor?

Ron Artest has a twitter addiction / obsession.

The futbol update in England simplified into numbers.

Lamar Odom was their role model. Unfortunately, it did not leave to a desired result.

Are you one of them?

Twitter and boxing mix. Here's how.

The Playmaker is back.

The NFC East is on the CBH docket.

Never realized that the classic Lebron game 5 had a predecessor.

Have some Hawaiian Punch.

Could they be on the clock at the end of 2009?

What were you thinking when he said this?

Not a good day for a Patriot QB. Like this and this

Speaking of Patriots, is it over?

Because people want more Ana

Flushing Meadows is about be abuzz and more abuzz.

Deja vu, Tiger?

And because my alma mater won twice this past week, here are the game updates from Thursday and Yesterday. I can happily report our current standings.

To end, here are some clips to end the day:

I was watching this in this venue.

The Sports Guy says this clip was spine-chilling.

The Homeless World Cup

A good friend named Paul sent me a link to a yearly event that will be held in Italy in September.

What is the tourney? It is the Homeless World Cup.

50 countries sending teams to Milan to celebrate football and to uplift the lives of homeless people around the world, especially the ones who are participating.

He, along with his fiance, will be sending me updates via twitter / facebook on what is going on. I wish them well.

This is Team Philippines:

Blog Outsourcing 2

This was i think the post that sealed the deal.

Technically, I will just share what I was going to write about last week.

Two weekends ago, I tried out surfing for the first time. I, along with some friends, took a five-six hour bus ride up north to take advantage of the waves along the South China Sea. The experience was great, although I had a hard time trying to successfully ride the waves (must be my weight). But it was wonderful. Pictures are already posted here.

This is me being taught:

Off we go to the links we all come to love:

More Lou Holtz predictions???

What Michael Vick can do

If Derrick Rose gets into trouble, Michael Beasley wants to outdo him.

It's just preseason. Surely looks like midseason for someone?

Anything Cavs-related that might boggle you? He might have answered it for you.

More legalese from the domain of Chris Petersen.

So, the cure for heroin is heroin?

The South provided much chatter in a certain post, but how about the North?

Chad Ochocinco or Braylon Edwards: Figure this out

Floyd Mayweather ice skating?

This pretty much encapsulates life and college football. As a relative outsider in this, It is so fun. LOL...

People really like bald guys on TV.

Guy will need to wear a cup when he gets back.

Favre and voodoo.

Eli started it. The next domino fell. Who's next?

The week in English football.

Unlike someone, he is not coming back. (At least for this year)

Coming soon to a movie near you. (JP Note: we have been doing that for most fights featuring top Filipino boxers.)

Best pool player ever.

Dear Pac-Man: do no do this. Gatti and McNair paid the price already.

Finally, my own college basketball update: check here for the current status of my alma mater. Narratives of our last game can be located here .

Now for your parting shots:

This is was supposed to be on the last blog outsourcing. A simple glimpse of Ateneo-La Salle:

And because I love Leighton Meester....

International Correspondent

Good news for me. I have now been hired to be the newest blogger for an American sports blog.

I aim to never let them down.

Read me here. Might as well comment on here as well.

UAAP Final Four chase after 10 games

Here are the standings after 10 games

AdMU: 9-1
FEU: 8-2
UE: 6-4
UST: 5-5
DLSU: 4-6
AdU: 3-7
UP: 3-7
NU: 2-8

Remaining Schedule:

AdMU: NU (8/27), AdU(8/30) UP (9/6), FEU (9/12)
FEU: AdU (8/27), UP (8/29), DLSU (9/5) AdMU (9/12)
UE: DLSU (8/29), UP (9/3), NU (9/5), UST (9/10)
UST: NU (8/30), DLSU (9/3) AdU (9/6), UE (9/10)
DLSU: UE (8/29), UST (9/3), FEU (9/5), NU (9/10)
AdU: FEU (8/27), AdMU (8/30), UST (9/6), UP (9/12)
UP: FEU (8/29), UE (9/3), AdMU(9/6), AdU (9/12)
NU: AdMU (8/27), UST (8/30), UE (9/5), DLSU (9/10)

Ateneo has sealed a Final Four berth. Schedule looks good to seal twice to beat. Barring anything, will finish with top seed.
UE has an outside chance of getting 2nd seed, but with 6 wins, has one foot in the Final Four.
UST also has an outside chance, but they have a slimmer chance. They have a bigger chance of sealing a final four spot than nabbing second.
Adamson and UP will have tough sledding as they will face both Ateneo and FEU.

Ateneo goes 13-1. FEU seals 2nd spot and face off against UE (which might be a good thing based on recent tradition)

The final team to make the playoffs will have a 7-7 record.

Pasintabis galore

Favre is back. Back again. Vikings are in relevancy. Circle November 1. Favre in Green Bay.

The Hunt for October rages on. Yankees, Red Sox and Rays in the AL East. Tigers, White Sox and Twins in the AL Central. Angels and Rangers in the AL West. AL Wildcard in the chase as well. How about the NL? Phillies, Braves and Marlins in the East. Cardinals and Cubs in the Central. Dodgers, Rockies and Giants in the West. Same thing with the Wildcard. By the way, Yankees took two of three from the Sawx at Fenway.

Preseason is on for the NFL. Meaning football is on. I will be planning on a football preview before the games are played. The collegiate equivalent is 2 weeks away. Might also do that as well.

NBA is too far off, but again, i promise a specific nba preview for it. just wait. it is still too damn early.

Bolt is fast. He posts two world records, both smashed by .11, which is so mind-blowing. Imagine if he can catch passes.

Soccerheads rejoice as various football leagues have started.

Let's enjoy sports as it comes.

In addition, this was not just an ordinary event, as it also serves a way of helping out WWF-Philippines with their efforts in saving the environment. A large amount was raised, so congrats to my fellow bloggers and non-bloggers for coming in.

Special thanks to the San Juan Beach Resort and the Billabong Surf School for being the gracious hosts to the event. Men's Health cover dude and surfer Luke Landrigan was the main instructor to us during the surfing lessons. I personally want to thank my personal surf instructor Chad for being very patient and understanding.

So, how did I fare? Well, I found it a little difficult, especially since it was my first time and I was only able to surf successfully for a brief moment. Must be my weight and balance issues. I tried my best and I had lots of fun, even with the painful back, the sunburn, the soreness. It is a wonderful thing. I would like another crack at it someday, whenever that will come. Plus, the place is amazing. Very pristine.

Again, thanks to all who made it possible. It was well worth it.

Blog Outsourcing (that did not push through)

If things went right, this should have been posted, but since something happened, i'll just post it here.

Happy Monday! It's already past the halfway point of August, to which it gets closer and closer to more football and in my case, the NBA. Apparently, I got the chance to do another TMA post. I again aim to not disappoint the regular readers and fellow commenters.

I actually did something productive during the weekend. I tried out surfing for the first time. I, along with some friends, took a five-six hour bus ride up north to take advantage of the waves along the South China Sea. The experience was great, although I had a hard time trying to successfully ride the waves (must be my weight). But it was wonderful. I will post the pictures once they are ready.

Time to show link love, then:

A Korean won another golf tournament. Just not the LPGA tour, though.

This guy really lives up to his surname.

Look who went the modern Woodstock?

Beer-thowing is not just an American phenomenon.

Catfights in MMA

More beanball

The ticking clock featured the dirty bird. Was it good PR? Someone said yes.

A coach who thinks he is Jack Bauer.

This kid is really lucky.

Another one of my homeboys wins another boxing trinket. Speaking of boxing, Roy Jones is still alive.

There are non-plays that are worth noticing, too.

Futbol alert: Someone wrote in his thoughts on week 1 of the Premier League. Also the week that was in numbers.

Manny Pacquiao is a peacemaker.

I encourage you to join this game on ESPN. This is the only game I can play at work. This is one interesting group.

today features 1 tennis match, a futbol match, 5 baseball games, a Little League showdown, and the MN(P)F game featuring sparty's boys against the panthers.

Just because: yesterday also saw my alma mater beat my arch-rival again. This time a win much more palatable. Read up here and here. Here is scathing remark from the point of view of the other side.

Lastly, some parting videos.

Surfin' the Sago Way.

I am currently in San Juan, La Union for the Let's Go Sago Surfing extravaganza. The night is just beginning, but the fun never ends. Twas an experience all its own. Posts related to this will be written in the appropriate fora.

I know I am missing the Ateneo-La Salle game tomorrow, but I hope that the next round will be what I expect it to be.

Vick in the Linc

The player once dubbed as the most exciting player in football has a new team. Minutes after the preseason tip-off between the Steelers and Cardinals (a repeat of the Super Bowl), Chris Mortensen reports that the Philadelphia Eagles signed Michael Vick with a two-year deal. According to the guidelines set by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Vick will be allowed to practice, but not play in the first 2 preseason games and the first 6 weeks of the season. (That can change on appeal).

Considering how injury prone they have been, this is a fresh signing. The system is famillar as an aspect of the West Coast was applied in Atlanta. With his mad skills, they can be creative with the offense. The Wildcat is in vogue, and with the skill set he has, why not? Imagine the possibilities. Think Seneca Wallace in Seattle or Tim Tebow with Chris Leak. I understand the predicament of Donovan McNabb, but considering the guy missed two years due to jail time, he will not pose as a threat unless he goes down.

Everybody should go surfin'

You got free time this weekend?

GO here. This will be fun. Guaranteed. Imagine some kind of dork doing the waves.

And yes, No Ateneo-La Salle inside the Big Dome for good ol' me. Life is not just about basketball. LOL.

Blog Outsourcing

I love the fact that someone outsourced me to do a blog. This can be seen here.

Here is what I wrote. I just made some minor updates.

Happy Hump Day Wednesday! It is already Wednesday afternoon as I write this, with the weather a bit drizzly and all.

Anyway, this is my first-ever TMA (and hopefully not the last), so I aim to please.

I am a twitter addict (you can follow me here) and I have been tweeting lately about Filipino basketball. The Philippines is currently locked in a battle to qualify for the FIBA World Championships in Memo and Hedo's turf. The qualifying tournament is currently ongoing as of the moment in China, with the Philippines advancing to the quarterfinals. Our next game against the loser of the China-Jordan match later 7pm local time. The pressure is on as it will be win-or-go-home. If you can't sleep (with the time difference and all, you can watch via live streaming here. Said site also provides a good venue as to what you can watch here in the islands.

Onto the links:

Someone shares his top 5 fave running backs. Time to do the Ickey.

Pitino did not admit to juicing, but he did admit to this

Speaking of juicers....

Guess who's back again? Dust off an old Steve Young jersey or maybe this guy's.

They are already imposing with their demigod, but do you really want to tinker with something that works with something like this?

The Mets are bad, so bad that it could be this epic.

Yes, it has been that long since that weekend for John Daly.

A very compelling rivalry. Can Bob's boys finally get it over the hump in Azteca?

Here is an interesting boxing match scheduled in between JMM-PBF and Pacquiao-Cotto for fight fans.

Speaking of Pac-Man: My countryman has a chance of winning a belt in an unprecedented 7th weight class. Andre Berto thinks he can beat the p4p icon, according to a tweet he sent me.

Check out some falling stars.

Finally, on Sunday, my alma mater won against my arch rival. Before reading up on the story of the game here and here, read this. It is a good background on how we value the sport.

You can see my blog and check my own pictures documenting my social life as well.

Here is a parting shot, lovingly dedicated for Knick fans who want some guy in Cleveland.

P.S. if you want to do the dance...

The quest for tickets part 1

That is the 1st Round line of the Ateneo-La Salle ticket waiting last week. With the second round game coming this Sunday, expect similar lines.

I am hoping I would be getting this number again soon.

I arrived there 5 hours before ticket releasing. I might have to be there earlier if I would be watching next week.

Basking in the glow of victory.

There will be some who will relish in the fact that it had to take five extra minutes to do it, but we all got a "kick" out of the game as a whole.

The partisans may be a tad disappointed that victory was a bit marginal and it took additional time, but the victory is still something worth savoring.

There are a lot things to work on for us. We haven't peaked yet, so on with the show.

Ateneo. La Salle. In Yellow.

In a matter of hours, I will be trooping off to the mecca of Philippine Sports.

In a matter of hours, I will be in a state of bedlam.

In a matter of hours, I will be cheering for blue.

In a matter of hours, I will wear yellow.

In a matter of hours, I will cheer and heckle the way the 6th Man does.

In a matter of hours, we will always prevail (whether we win or lose).

In a matter of hours, I will have friends become foes.

In a matter of hours, I will be experiencing Ateneo-La Salle, and nothing comes close in the Philippines.

Amen. Now Fight Fight Blue and White.

P.S. I will be in yellow, and you ought to be in one, too. Whether inside the Big Dome or at home or at a viewing party. You can always wear an Ateneo jersey.

Advanced birthday greeting to Sago!

Sunday, August 2, 2009

Pasintabis to start the month

1. Congrats to Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice on entering the Hall of Fame. They deserve it and Rickey is the Man!

2. Michael Vick is a free man and a free agent. Lots of teams want to, but fear the PR hit. The copycat league has to have someone of his skills.

3. The Jones Cup experience was disappointing. Add to that the ridiculous fight in the so-called scrimmage. Wow. Oh well... God, I hope things fall right in China. And it is already this week.

4. Congrats on the Draftees. I will see if i can break down the results as it happened.

5. MLB Trade Deadline (which does not involve waivers) came and went, with a Cy Young winner moving. However, that winner was not named Roy Halladay. The Pirates move another veteran for more prospects.

UAAP gameday 9 and 10 assessment

This will be short and sweet.

Adamson: they still need a good closer, so to speak. but they managed to keep instep.

NU: if we did not step off the pedal or invoke the mercy rule, they would have been worse.

Ateneo: Adamson showed that we are a little bit sluggish after the loss, but boy, how we managed to pull that out against the bulldogs. NU scoring just 12 pts in 20 minutes? whoa. If we can do that consistently and with no let up, we might never lose again.

next game is a week away, against the school that must not be named.
